Do you have a Synology NAS at work? Check it today

Synology has warned that attackers are encrypting data and demanding ransom on NAS devices running old versions of DSM. The vulnerability they exploit was fixed in December 2024, so devices that are up to date are not at risk from it.

What we recommend to every business with a Synology

  1. Update DSM right away and turn on automatic updates.
  2. Don't leave the NAS open to the internet. For remote access, use a VPN.
  3. Turn on two-step verification (2FA) and disable the default admin account.
  4. Keep a copy outside the NAS. RAID is not a backup: if the NAS is encrypted, every disk is encrypted. Follow the 3-2-1 rule.
